Since late March I have received hundreds of inquires from those wanting to travel here to take one of my relocation tours and seminars. It seems more than ever people want to relocate or retire here.

Unfortunately, at this time the country will not allow visitors from the United States because of the surging epidemic there. As soon as conditions permit I plan to resume my tour schedule. Please check my website at www.liveincostarica.com , www.ticotimes.net and www.qcostarica.com for the latest news regarding travel to the country.

Here is the latest news from the Costa Rican government.

Costa Rica’s borders have been restricted since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic. During that time, Costa Rica has allowed only citizens and residents (with some exceptions) to enter the country.

Starting August 1, 2020, Costa Rica will reopen its airports to travelers from Canada, the European Union and the United Kingdom, as announced this Thursday July 23.

In 2019, more than 1.3 million tourists came to Costa Rica from the United States, more than any other single country by far. However, due to the North American nation’s increasing number of cases, Costa Rica has not yet authorized commercial flights from the United States.

Tourists that plan to visit Costa Rica during the upcoming week will have to follow all sanitary measures in place and comply with certain requirements, such as taking a Covid-19 test 48 hours prior to the flight, filling out a form with the information for epidemiologic control and acquiring travel insurance that covers expenses in the event of quarantine and medical expenses.

These are the measures to which tourists must follow if they visit the country.

  1. Tourists must complete and present an epidemiological survey.
  2. Tourists must present proof of a negative PCR coronavirus test. The result must have been received within the 48 hours before their travel to Costa Rica.
  3. Tourists must acquire travel insurance that covers medical care or an unexpected extended hotel stay.
  4. Tourists must follow all airport and local health protocols. This includes wearing a mask or face shield in in almost all indoor circumstances.

In addition at the time of departure, passengers must also wear a mask from the moment they enter the air terminal, undergo temperature taking and disinfection using carpets and hand washing.

Inside the airport, travelers will find signage (in Spanish and English) on sanitary protocols, demarcation to ensure distance and separation through plastic or glass barriers in the counters area, and immigration controls.
